Sydney, NSW: Australia’s only fractional sailing organisation, SailTime, has just been awarded the first 4C Commercial Survey Certificate issued in Australia. Maritime NSW issued the certificate to SailTime’s Beneteau Oceanis 34 “Bluebird” operating from its base at Middle Harbour, Mosman. This is also a first for the Australian charter industry, and a testament to the vision of Graham Raspass, SailTime Australia’s director.
When Graham and his wife Angela bought the Australian rights to the internationally successful boat share organisation a little over a year ago, they set a course to secure the right for their members to fully enjoy the experience of freedom associated with sailing luxury yachts. It’s been a journey of exploration, and they are delighted with achieving this milestone.
“We’re very excited to be making marine industry history. Up until now, when a person bare boat charters a vessel in Australian waters, they are restricted to either partially smooth or sheltered waters – which means sticking to harbours, bays or protected waterways . With the 4C survey, our members are now able to explore offshore waters. It’s a fantastic result stemming from over 12 months of in-depth discussions and collaboration between SailTime Australia, Beneteau and Maritime NSW, whose survey division have worked enthusiastically with us to achieve what is a great outcome for SailTime’s members and also the Australian Charter industry as a whole.”
In Australia SailTime is a relatively new entrant to the charter industry, and presents a very different offering to the traditional charter/syndicate model. Globally, SailTime is the leading fractional (membership based) sailing company, with over 50 bases worldwide. An alternative to traditional boat ownership, syndicate, boat share or charter sailing options SailTime members have access to luxury yachts without significant capital or the ongoing maintenance hassle. Members enjoy the convenience, access and advantage of a new yacht inclusive of insurance, marina fees and maintenance. The proven model reduces the real costs of owning and maintaining a luxury yacht without compromising on the access. Further details are available at www.sailtimeaustralia.com.au
Members love SailTime’s affordability and accessibility. “As a silver member, we get the boat 3 times a month and are able to have it on both weekend and weekdays. Sailing can be complex, but the two-day competent crewing program we completed is fantastic. There’s no difficulties getting on and off the boat from the berth at Newport,” says Miro Zivanovic, a card carrying SailTime member.
“SailTime gives us the opportunity to create great memories with family and friends exploring Pittwater and the Hawkesbury. The Basin is natures playground for the kids – we love having lunch at Patonga, making sure we always stop off for a dip at America Bay under the beautiful waterfalls.”
SailTime Australia currently operates 4 bases located at Middle Harbour, Newport, Hobart and following the recent addition of Lake Macquarie, is looking to further expand its operations throughout Australia.
